The gaming gain in Nevada in January 2024 reaches a record high of $1.2 billion, slightly higher than the same month the year before. Some areas, like Reno, are doing well while the Las Vegas Strip is in decline. With $64.7 million in winnings, sportsbooks shine and help the state perform well overall despite a variety of obstacles.

Gaming Wins in Nevada Rise Despite Strip Decline

Nevada's total gaming wins in January surpassed prior records, despite challenges including a decline in Las Vegas Strip revenues. This bodes well for an exciting year ahead. According to figures made public by the Nevada Gaming Control Board, nearly $1.2 billion was made from all forms of legal gaming at the state's licensed casinos in January. 

Even though this month's total is the greatest ever for any month, it is just marginally greater than January 2023's.

This includes winnings from actual slot machine games and table games, as well as sports betting both online and off, online poker, and horse race betting across the state.

Significant increases in gaming winnings were observed throughout Washoe County, particularly in Reno, where winnings increased by 55% over the previous year.

Amid the decline of the Las Vegas Strip, Nevada sportsbooks thrive

Sportsbooks in Nevada also recorded a successful January, with winnings topping $64.7 million. This was the largest amount for January in the seven years prior, and it played a significant role in the income growth month over month. 

Despite the positive trends in gaming profits, the Las Vegas Strip experienced a 3.8% drop in casino revenue from the prior year, primarily due to a drop in table game revenues. Laughlin, Mesquite, downtown Las Vegas, and rural parts of Nevada all saw increases in revenue, which helped to offset the Strip's losses.

Following Nevada's prosperous fiscal year of 2023, in which the state recorded gaming revenue of a record-breaking $15.5 billion, comes the state's record-breaking January revenue.
